The angel Gabriel appeared to Zechariah promising that he would have a son, but Zechariah doubted Gabriel. It happened just as Gabriel promised, and Zechariah's wife Elizabeth became pregnant. Gabriel also appeared to Mary, promising her a Son Who would be born of the Holy Spirit.

Mary visited her relative Elizabeth in the sixth month of Elizabeth's pregnancy. Mary and Elizabeth praised the Lord for His goodness to them and to His people Israel. When Elizabeth's baby was born, Zechariah named him John. John grew up and prepared the people of Israel to receive their Lord.

Mary was engaged to Joseph, whom an angel told that Mary's child was from the Lord. Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem, where she had her baby. An angel told shepherds to go see the Savior Who was lying in a manger. At the temple, Simeon and Anna praised God.
