    • __QUESTION SIX:__ The Bible says God rested from all his work on the seventh day. Did God get tired and need to rest? Why do you think we are told that He rested?

Dear God, as we take care of the world, help us to remember that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. Help us also to look at the people around us and see them as You made them—in Your image. Break down barriers of hostility and help us love our neighbors as ourselves. Thank You for the gifts of marriage, companionship, and rest that You established from the very beginning. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.

And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

  • The Fall

The serpent came to Eve, saying: “Did God really say not to eat of any tree in the garden?” She ate of the fruit of the tree and shared it with her husband who was with her. Their eyes were opened, and they hid from God’s presence.

    • __QUESTION SIX:__ The Bible tells us that God drove the man from the garden to work the ground from which he had been taken. How do you think Adam and Eve's life would be different outside the garden?

Dear God, as sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, mankind’s relationship with You was broken. Though You punished disobedience, You also made a path forward to restore and redeem that broken relationship. You sent Jesus into the world to die for us on the cross and rise from the dead. Through this, You have made us Your children. Forgive us and strengthen us in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.

So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate, and she also gave some to her husband who was with her, and he ate. He [God] drove out the man, and at the east of the garden of Eden he placed the cherubim and a flaming sword that turned every way to guard the way to the tree of life.
